MGM Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The Graduate (40th Anniversary Edition) on 11th September 2007 priced at $24.98 SRP. Regarded by film historians and movie critics as one of the key, groundbreaking films of the 1960’s, The Graduate follows Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman), a young college graduate who finds himself alienated and adrift in the shifting, social and sexual mores of the 1960s and questioning the values of society. Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Hoffman), Best Actress (Anne Bancroft), Best Supporting Actress (Katharine Ross), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography, The Graduate won the Oscar for Best Director for then newcomer Mike Nichols (Closer, The Birdcage) who quickly became one of Hollywood’s elite directors following his win.

The two-disc anniversary edition DVD features all new commentary tracks from Hoffman, Ross, Nichols and Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh (2001, Best Director, Traffic), a new retrospective documentary about the influence of the film, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more.

What about the video and audio? R1 has yet to have an anamorphic version of this film and hopefully this release finally will.
