Awesome news! Harry Potter 4 is still to be announced in the US. :)

Wonder if all the extras and sound specs (True HD in several cases) will be ported over from the US releases :)

Well I think I'll get my 360 HD-drive ordered as there are some (IMO) decent films finally arriving.. I really like the artwork for Batman Begins (even though I still haven't seen it) and I'm looking forward to a recent print like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in glorious HD!!

Not too bad for starters. I'm not so sure about the £25 price tag though. Hopefully that will come down fairly soon or I'll carry on importing for £13-£15 per disc.

V for Vendetta has just been announced for release on HD DVD in Australia for A$30 (less than 13 quid), making these Warners titles grossly over-priced.

Nothing much new there for importers except HP but that looks like a particuarly strong release slate on the HD DVD side of things. Kiss Kiss is a combo in the states with a very fine picture too (Its also one of my fave movies of last year) but being a single layer combo I suspect the European HD-30 version will beat it quite easily.

The RRPs are stoopid but I suspect this is just so HMV can sell the initial batch at a huge profit and justify some big display stands that Warner will want in their stores.

Regarding Enter The Dragon, I hope Warners corrected the sound flaws that were on the DVD

Krobar - yes, we will probably not get combos here in Europe which is a good thing if the space is used for better picture, Dolby True HD, PCM 5.1 or DTS HD, or additional extras. Unfortunately that extra disc space may also be used for dubbed italian, spannish and german ;)

I really don't like double-sided discs so I'm quite pleased to see that the UK studios might not bother with them. As long as we get equal picture/audio to the US combos and all the extras from the DVD releases I'll be happy. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is on my HD to-buy list so I'll definitely pick up the UK version (or Australian if that's cheaper).

From that list Rumour Has It and Superman Returns are also combos in the US. I'm not interested in either but i'm sure Superman will be very popular with US buyers if it's not a combo like their version.

HMV is already selling Blu-ray Discs for £17.99 on the high street so I wouldn't be surprised if it's possible to buy them and HD DVDs for less online.

Also, as a correction, Full Metal Jacket is listed twice in the HD DVD list.

The lists have been updated and are now considered "officially announced", though Warner are still saying titles and dates are subject to change.

I don't like double sided discs either per say but the fact I won't need to upgrade when I get HD far outweighs this. It's annoying they're more expensive (more to the point expensive).

But then the cost of the DVD now and HD-DVD later would be more so it's not too bad. You're going to have to upgrade anyway so Combo is ideal.

I'm specifically only getting Combos though if all the extras are on the DVD side too. I would've got Superman Returns Combo but the DVD side is bare-bones

Dave do you know if any Combos are coming outside of The States?

Nothing official has been said, though from these first releases it certainly doesn't look as though they plan on using them over here.

I have the 360 HD DVD add-on ordered so will have no need for Combo discs. Although the upgrade path is a popular argument for the Combo, in most of the promotional material I've seen the Combo format is being sold on the basis that you can "play the disc anywhere", at a friend's who doesn't have a HD DVD player, or in the kids room where they don't have a player etc. They're really not pushing it as an easy upgrade route, which is probably why they're not so bothered about providing all extras on both sides of the disc.

For example, this is from Universal:

Quote:
The new Dual Format Discs will be HD DVD on one side,
standard DVD on the other side, enabling consumers to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Consumers will be able to play the HD DVD side on their HD DVD player
or play the standard DVD side on their DVD players in their kids' room, portable DVD player, car DVD player, etc.

They can play the disc anywhere and anytime!

Or wait for dual supporting players, they're out soon for the computer market so I'm sure the home market will follow.

Fair enough as you say you can wait for the non-USA version.

It's annoying they're charging a premium when many won't even want the DVD side.

You'd think they'd think of both markets, it seems a bit dumb to me.

As long as they don't mind playing the extras only half the time :D

Thanks as ever Dave.

So, the 20th of November is finally here - has anyone seen them in the shops and do we have any specs yet? Or have they been postponed once more ;)
