UPDATE 03/09/2006: Tartan have postponed this release until early 2007.

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of The Jim Jarmusch Collection for 13th November 2006 priced at £39.99. With his trademark shock of white hair and ultra-cool Rock star persona, Jim Jarmusch is a leading figurehead in American Independent film. Steadfastly resisting the sirens of Hollywood, Jarmusch has fashioned stylish, quirky, and thoroughly hip movies that have been the toast of the international film circuit.

This 3 DVD Box Set includes new-to-UK DVD releases of his first directorial features -Permanent Vacation (1981) which follows the freewheeling journey of a teenage loner as he visits his mother, and Stranger than Paradise (1984) which wryly focuses on the relationship between an ex-pat Hungarian living in New York and his family. The set is completed with the remastered edition of his classic noirish jail comedy Down By Law (1986). John Luire appears in all three movies. All films are HD.

In 2007 Tartan plan to release further titles in their Jim Jarmusch collection - Dead Man, Mystery Train and Night on Earth.

Logically, a third box set could feature Ghost Dog, Coffee & Cigarettes and Broken Flowers, but I suppose this depends heavily on rights issues.

(Mind you, Jarmusch is notorious for retaining control over as much as he can, so this may be easier to arrange with him than it would be for most filmmakers...)
