Universal Playback have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of several box-set collections and a few individual TV show releases over the next month or so.

Arriving on 19th October 2009 is Columbo: The Complete Series which bundles together all 10 seasons of the detective drama starring Peter Falk. That’s 35 discs of content with an £129.99 RRP.

Then on 2nd November 2009 there are three BBC comedy series receiving the ‘Complete Collection’ box-set treatment. They are All Creatures Great and Small (£129.99 RRP), Hi-De-Hi (£79.99 RRP) and ’Allo ‘Allo (£99.99 RRP). Content is the same as the individual releases.

There is also another instalment of another BBC comedy series due in-between on 26th October 2009 - Last of the Summer Wine Series 15 & 16. Included are all 9 episodes from each series plus the relevant Christmas Specials (1982 and 1983) presented in 1.33:1 with English DD2.0 Stereo sound and optional English SDH subtitles.

Finally there will be two new Most Haunted sets available in October. Most Haunted Live Series 7 arrives on the 19th and is followed by Most Haunted Series 11 on the 26th. Features are TBC.

Okay, instead of silly boxes such as these, why can't they use thin cases to cut down on shelf space.

I agree. I'd far rather have a simple row of slim cases than non-standard, awkwardly shaped packaging. I guess they figure this makes them more attractive though, especially as gives, although I don't agree.

Looking at the Columbothey could just be slimlines inside a box, and it may be the only one with an odd layout.

At least its better than those awful plan black, no writing, unidentifible cardboard cases they used for many multi-season sets.
