Can I just clear one thing up straight away: is the dvd release of The Thing a new transfer? The old dvd was non-anamorphic and to my knowledge hasn't been superceded by a newer R2 release yet. Unless I missed something?

It was last re-released in 2006 and it's being re-released again on 6th October by Universal. I can't say for sure if it's anamorphic but we'll have discs later this week so I'll post again then.

So Prince of Darkness doesn't have an audio com anymore? That seems a bit odd.

Since DVD's now in year 11 and Universal finally released an anamorphic Thing in Region 1 in 2004, it really is about damn time that they got round to releasing The Thing in anamorphic in Region 2. Something it's taken Universal 11 years to do. Not very impressive for what has to be a continual back catalogue seller for them.

I, however, am holding out for the inevitable Thing Blu-ray for my anamorphic upgrade.

OK, sorry to get your hopes up guys, The Thing is still non-anamorphic. I really thought they had re-issued it with a new transfer already, but obviously that was limited to R1.

Specs for all titles have been updated. Mostly there are no changes, the main ones are confirmation of audio on Halloween (which includes Original Mono), confirmation of 5.1 audio and a trailer on Prince of Darkness (no commentary though), and confirmation of a commentary on The Fog.
