"28 days Later". Wow. Can't wait to see that shot-on-SD-Video film in HD.
It should look... exactly like the DVD.

I have the boxset of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later from Hong Kong(Its the USA discs in HK boxes, the discs have FBI warnings on the disc even)and didn't know before I got it the origins of the first film.
Its a great film but as you say it looks just like a DVD upscaled. Infact it looks worse than most DVD's upscaled. The DTS MA mix is pretty good though. The second film looks great but is pretty rubbish.
Cloverfield on BD however looks great in HD so that must have been filmed differently.

House Of Flying Daggers excellent!
I hope it has all the 2 Disc SE DVD extras. Sure it's a pity it will be cut but it's still much less cut than the USA BD and the PQ should also be much better too. I've wanted to get this on BD for ages.

Does anyone else agree and wish Fox would stop ruining the coverart by plastering the blue oval 'For use only with Blu-Ray Players..' notice on it? I may be optimistic, but I'm sure the general population know now that you need special players for the discs - and that the PS3 is one of them. We have enough BBFC logos on as it is without the entire cover being crammed with yet more of them!

I suppose it's too much to hope that those blue ovals are stickers that can be removed? The huge Blu Ray Disc logos on the box should be enough of a clue.
And, yes, two sets of censors' certificates (containing the exact same information) are always hideous and make the design look crap. The quotes and stars from the likes of Nuts and Uncut add the finishing touch.

It's cover art. I don't give a monkeys. This isn't EIV cover art.

There are only 3 million people in Ireland, it's just not financially viable to create different discs for Ireland, especially when it's an English speakng country too.
The ratings aren't always the same too. Again it's "cover art".
p.s - Weird the night watch/day watch films maybe getting TrueHD and not the usual DTS-HD MA.

Wonder if these will be the original uncut versions of the Dozor films?

Highly unlikely, I'd have thought - does Fox even have the rights to the Russian cuts?
Rather more pertinently, will the Blu-Ray versions have the animated subtitles? The ones on the theatrical version of Day Watch were even more elaborate than the first lot, but the DVDs only offered far inferior electronic versions.

I'm curious to see which encode we get for Silent Hill. Really hoping they don't port over the US MPEG-2 - hopefully we'll get the German VC-1 encode!

I have the US BD of Point Break and its very nice indeed.
With regards the "for Blu-ray only" on all the Region A Fox BDs I have its a sticker and stuck on the wrapping not the sleve. I only have one Fox UK BD (due to region encoding issues) and thats the region free Alien Vs Predator. On that release there is no sticker or label or anything.
The "for Blu-ray only" should be a sticker as it is with Region A Fox BDs (I have Japanese, HK Fox titles and its a sticker there as well its not just US BDs). It is needed as some people out there might buy a Blu-ray and try to stick it into their Xbox 360 because it can output in HD. The shops want to be able to not offer a refund based on incompatabilty.

Finally, Night and Day Watch coming to Blu-Ray but are Fox going to use the burned on subtitled verison or will be be standard subtitles for the original russian language version? It's not a major qualm, I like what Blu-ray does to subtitling - making smoother text than standard dvds, it's just I really like those cool subtitles. It added an extra viewing experience to those films.

In R1, Night Watch is international cut, but Day Watch is the uncut version, unfortunately without the international cut and its cool subtitles available. So it's basically a big mess here on this side of the pond.

Does anyone have any news on Silent Hill? The Sony US release is barebones, but the Pathe UK release had some extras? Any news on if these will be ported across (or hopefully expanded upon)?

So Administrators,
Is there any news on when we can expect to see Point Break over here?

The Omen collection seem to miss out on the 2006 version (perhaps not THAT a big loss)..

Ive seen the Day/Night discs, checkdiscs, and neither have the fancy subtitles which, particularly with the second movie, is a huge loss.

Don't know if it the same as the german encode but it is VC1 encoded. with a 2mbps DTS-HR Track and the disk used is BD25. Got mine yesterday.
I knowticed Aliens V Preditor box set in the list but does anyone know if that this box set will have the new AVC reissue in it that was mentioned a while ago.
I know that the old MPEG2 release has been arround for a while but I would like to aviod the MPEG2 release.
I liked the first film but was waiting for the AVC release.
I can't seem to find any specs on this new boxset cause if the first film is encoded in AVC its a buy for me.

28 Days Later is dual coded to Regions B & A. THis is stated on the packaging and does play in both regions. THe list is slowly growing for this trend with Meet the Spartans, Stargate Continium being the others.
House of Flying Daggers is a VC-1 encode but does NOT feature a DTS-HD MA track, it is a DTS-HD HR track similar to the Silent Hill disc.
Both HOFD and Silent Hill are stated as Region B only, but there is a work around for the Panasonic BD-P30 Region A which may work on other players.

@ Ricstar: How do you know HOFD is Region B? Do you have it? Does "stated as" also mean you've tested it? Thanks. What's the workaround btw?
Is it definitely DTS-HD HR? Even the cover says DTS-HD MA. Thanks for the info on the VC1 encoding. That at least means it's a new transfer and they've not re-used Sony's shoddy MPEG2 transfer. Any idea how it compares?
It's good to see all the extras are on board, most of which aren't on the Sony USA BD.

Yes I have the disc and it is a DTS-HD HR track as my amp reports it as being that, which suggests its a port of the european version. Members over at another forum have reported the same too.
I managed to get this Region B disc to work in my Region A Panny player by doing the following.
When the disc is inserted in the Region A player a warning appears stating that player region mismatch. A black screen with white writing. THen i hit STOP on the remote control, which removed the warning screen. THen hitting TOP MENU on the remote got me into the main menu and then was able to play the movie.
The same routine also works for UK Region B release of Silent HIll from Fox/Pathe
THe VC-1 encode is a notable improvment on the Sony discs.

The Hills have eyes 2 is Region Free. Packaging states A, B & C. A new trend from FOX UK perhaps?
I would love to know the packaging or press release for the 007 James Bond Collection. Will it be locked to Region B or multi region?

It's unlikely to be a direct port as it will be cut, unlike the Mainland European ones. Do any of them have English subs btw? Which countries do you mean?
Thanks Ricstar for the rest of the info.
