The Omen (1976) & The Omen Collection (US BD) in September

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the US Region A Blu-ray Disc release of The Omen and The Omen Collection on 9th September 2008. The 1976 horror original directed by Richard Donner and starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick arrives on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Disc alongside The Omen Collection four-disc set featuring all three of the original films (The Omen, Damien: Omen II and Omen III: Final Conflict), as well as the 2006 remake.

The made-for-television Omen IV: The Awakening is not included.

The Omen (1976) is priced at $39.98 SRP and offers the following features on a dual-layer 50GB disc:

The Omen Collection is priced at $129.98 SRP and is a four-disc set that includes The Omen (1976), Damien: Omen II and Omen III: Final Conflict authored in BD-J with AVC (MPEG 4) compression on dual-layer 50GB discs presented in widescreen (2.35:1 aspect ratio) with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Audio plus English, Spanish, Korean and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) subtitles. The Omen (2006) is authored in MPEG2 compression on a single-layer 25GB disc presented in widescreen (1.85:1 aspect ratio) with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Audio, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Surround with English and Spanish subtitles only.

Wow, the specs for the first film sound absolutely magnificent. I just hope the original mono audio is included, as it's not listed here.

And agreed, the cover for the single disc release looks hideous.

Great sound specs but I doubt there'll be much in the way of rear effects even with a lossless track on the original 3 movies....and I also agree that the cover for the original Omen is kaka....Why don't they just leave well enough alone.......

Pity they couldn't dig up some better extras for Omen II, might just stick to the original for now.

Even though it's a terrible film, I'd much rather have Omen IV instead of the remake, just for the sake of completeness.

Still, nice specs for the first film. Not convinced about the cover, but it might grow on me. Why can't studios just start using original poster art?! It's always so much better!
