T3: Rise of the Machines (US BD) in December

Warner Home Video have announced the US Blu-ray Disc release of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on 18th December 2007 priced at $28.99 SRP.

Released on HD DVD over a year ago Warner held Terminator 3 back (along with several other key titles) on Blu-ray Disc due to the format’s spec not supporting Warner’s In-Movie Experience picture-in-picture content. For this release it was originally believed Warner would be taking advantage of the new updated Blu-ray Disc profile 1.1 spec, but Warner have since confirmed they are just encoding the movie onto the disc twice (once with the PIP content, and once without).

Features include:
  • 1080P 2.40:1 Widescreen
  • English, French and Spanish DD5.1 Surround
  • English, French and Spanish subtitles
  • “In-Movie Experience” - Join Director Jonathan Mostow and his creative team for a behind-the-cameras tour of state-of-the-art sci-fi/action moviemaking – All while watching the film itself!
  • Introduction by Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • 3 Commentaries with the stars and director
  • HBO First Look Documentary
  • Sgt. Candy SceneTerminal Flaws Gag Reel
  • Dressed To Kill
  • Storyboard Gallery
  • Toys in Action
  • The Making of the Video Game
  • Theatrical Trailer

I wonder whatever happened to the T3: DC that was so touted around the time the DVD was released. I guess Mostow has decided against it.

Any news on the German T2 HD-DVD Dave?

It was mentioned a few months back but has now gone quiet. I saw a trailer on You Tube and it looked amazing. Easily beating the USA BD, UK HD-DVD and French HD-DVD.

I also wish Sony would re-release their Terminator BD now Dual Layer is out. They remastered Fifth Element so why not this? They've not even released it in the UK :(

What does state-of-the-art actually mean? What state of what art?

Have you even read up on Terminator and Terminator 2 (especially T1) RisingSun? They're both a joke.

T2 doesn't have Lossless Audio on BD, which I thought was crucial to you. It doesn't mean anything that they're on your infamous BD format when they release such shoddy releases.

T2 HD-DVD even from the Studio Canal (namely UK and French releases) release is way better than Lionsgate T2 effort. I don't even dare mention how bad T1 is.

Yeah, alright! I was just pointing out that the BD (on Region A at least) format now has them all!

Both the sound and picture on both T1 and T2 on RA BD needs to be improved on. I sold them both, and I am too hoping for re-releases too.

I also hope Warner includes lossless sound here.

I have the US BD of T1 and its not that bad. The only thing I don't like about it is that its pretty bare bones and there is no mono track.

I have not bothered with T2 as I m waiting for a decent release. Im tempted by the French HD-DVD release as it has two of the three cuts and is said to look decent. I have the UE R1 DVD(first import DVD i got back in August 2001) in the tin so I have the extras so the fact its bare bones won't be a factor.

T3 I don't like and am happy with the 2 disc DVD i brought years ago so have left the HD-DVD alone and will do the same with this(unless I see it for a very very low price)

Fair enough then.

The HD-DVD doesn't so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

It's not that good either. Most people say it barely looks and better than the DVD, if so what's the point? It's not surprising when they've crammed it along with PCM on to a BD25.

T2 UK HD-DVD looks okay, if limited. The German HD-DVD should be awesome though.

The French HD-DVD is identical to the UK release except it has the Theatrical Cut but with Forced subs making it worthless to me. The UK and French HD-DVDs look identical.

Both T1 and T2 I think were not bad. Remembering they were VERY early releases for BD. But since they were on a BD25 disc (and MPEG-2) and I know BD50 re-releases are obviously coming I just decided to sell them to fund some BD50/AVC titles instead.

If this has lossless sound: I'll be over the moon. IMHO, all summer blockbusters need lossless perfect audio from the master as standard.

Hello Pro-B. That's great.

I imagine if the HD-DVD was released today Warner would put True-HD on it.

Agreed to an extent but considering they were BD25s Sony should've never used MPEG2 for T1 or they should've not bothered with Lossless Audio. There were ways to greatly improve the disc with the hardware they had to play with.

I hear T2 isn't actually "that" bad. It's at least an improvement over the DVD, pity it doesn't have much extras and only DD5.1 or DTS sound, the DTS though by all accounts doesn't work properly. It causes the picture to glitch.

It does also offer the Theatrical Cut whereas the French HD-DVD has Forced subs on that one. Even so it's still a very lazy effort. In short both really, really should've been held back until BD50 was out, they knew it was coming.

Any proof on that confirmation on that front or are you just hoping?

Right now I'm holding out for the German T2 HD-DVD which is due 2007/2008, that's all it says. It will be one of the titles to use DynamicHD though:

No TrueHD and no profile 1.1 as it turns out.
