Warner Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on 11th December 2007. Lord Voldemort has returned, but few want to believe it. In fact, the Ministry of Magic is doing everything it can to keep the wizarding world from knowing the truth - including appointing Ministry official Dolores Umbridge as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. When Professor Umbridge refuses to train her students in practical defensive magic, a select group of students decides to learn on their own. With Harry Potter as their leader, these students (who call themselves "Dumbledore's Army") meet secretly in a hidden room at Hogwarts to hone their wizarding skills in preparation for battle with the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters. .

The film version of the fifth novel in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series arrives on DVD in separate Widescreen and Full Screen single-disc editions ($28.98 SRP each) and in a Widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition ($34.99 SRP).

Presented with English, French and Spanish audio (DD5.1 Surround) and subtitle options, extras on the 2-Disc Special Edition include:
  • Additional Scenes: 17 minutes of never-before-seen footage.
  • Trailing Tonks - Spend a day with Actress Nat Tena and receive a very personal and often wacky tour of the Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix stages.
  • Harry Potter: The Magic of Editing - Director David Yates and Editor Mark Day show what a difference a good edit makes to allow the viewers to edit a scene.
  • A&E Documentary: The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter - Viewers take a thrilling look back at the past Harry Potter films in search of clues to the mysteries of the upcoming Harry Potter saga.
  • DVD ROM Content - This will include a timeline, a link to sneaks of HP6, along with other materials.

Also set for release the same day is the Harry Potter Limited Edition Giftset, a 12-disc set which includes the two-disc editions of all five Harry Potters films, a new Hogwarts Challenge interactive game with 14 adventure games based on the first three films, and a second bonus disc which includes more than 3 hours of all-new to DVD extra content from all five films. Also included with the limited edition giftset are collectible premiums -- the Harry Potter Bookmark Collection, with five unique souvenir metal bookmarks, and 4 different packs of Harry Potter trading cards, from each of the first 4 films. Retail on the set is $119.97 SRP.

Extras found on the Giftset’s exclusive bonus disc follow…
  • 2001 International TV Special: A Glimpse Into the World of Harry Potter
  • 2002 HBO First Look Special: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets Revealed
  • 2004 HBO First Look Special: Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban: Something Wicked This Way Comes
  • 2004 ABC Special: The Making of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Interview with Alfonso Cuaron (in Spanish, subtitled)
  • 2005 ITV/Granada Special: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire: Behind the Magic
  • 2005 ITV/Granada Special: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire: Some Animal Magic
  • 2005 HBO First Look Special: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire: Dark Matters, New Masters
  • 2007 International TV Special: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix: The Rebellion Begins
  • 2007 HBO First Look Special: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix: Fulfilling a Prophecy

And finally films 1-3 will also be re-released individually at a new low price ($14.97 SRP each) complete with a set of four trading cards specific to each film. Film number 4, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will also be available with trading cards but the low price of $14.97 SRP is valid only for 60 days, after which it well sell for $19.97 SRP.

Not really my cup of tea these movies, but have to say the giftset looks amazing. Only thing is why buy it now with the series not being completed yet? Another one will come along after part 6 and 7 for sure.

cant wait for this dvd. im getting 2 disc cause a single disc for these movies just seem pointless. and i agree with bigar that the box set looks great but not understanding why they need to do something that big when there is going to be 7 altogether. i mean its not like we dont know how many more there are going to be because from the begining of the book series it was always going up to 7. anyway if the 5 movie box set looks that cool i wonder what the 7 series box set will look like.

Enough with the box-sets its just retarded! No one is actually waiting for the 7 film set to buy the films(people already bought them as they came out) While not the best of the HP series, certainly a nice addition. I'll be getting the 2-disc set. DUH!

By the time the 7th movie comes out, DVD will probably be a thing of the past already. :p

But I agree, that gift set looks pretty awesome. And I'm such a sucker for fancy packaging...

DVD should be around for another decade (and since "Deathly Hallows" is rumored to get a summer 2010 release), that will give Warners enough time to release the final two movies on DVD and the high-def formats (as well as double-dipping). The high-def formats seem to be a niche market even with the dropping prices on HD-DVD and Blu-ray players.

I think they should remake just the box to be roomy enough to fit the last two in when they come out on DVD. THen all they have to do is put out a matching cover of each new story. Sounds pretty simple to me.

I just wonder when I should buy. Because if I buy the movie now it will be bested in just a year from now.I mean of course many movies that come out nowadays. So far HP has not done this but we all know the box set will be huge and full of new improved versions. I realize that remaking a movie with added features is sometimes a good thing but my money can be spent only so many times on the same movie
