Toshiba have announced new, 3rd generation HD DVD players for the European market. Both the new HD-EP30 and HD-EP35 players were both displayed at the IFA show, and both feature 1080p video output, and the ability to output HD DVDs at 24p, for a judder-free picture on compatible TVs.
Both players are designed to complement the Toshiba REGZA line of LCD TVs. The HD-EP35 also supports bitstream output of the High Definition audio formats via the HDMI jack, for compatible amps, as well as support for the "Deep Colour" standard made possible by HDMI 1.3. (How this will be achieved is unknown, since neither of the HD disc formats were designed with "Deep Colour" in mind). The HD-EP35 additionally retains Analogue Surround sound outputs, to allow people without HDMI 1.3 equipped sound setups to enjoy High Definition audio.
The HD-EP30 will be priced at around €399 (£270) and the HD-EP35 at €449 (£340) when they appear in October this year.
In addition, both Venturer and Onkyo showcased their HD DVD players at IFA.

Home Cinema Choice reports that the EP30 WILL output bitstream HD Audio over HDMI as well as the EP35. The only different between the two models being the analogue 5.1 output. Who is correct? HCC or DVD Times?

The new players boast market-leading specifications such as 1080p image support.
However, both the HD-EP30 and the HD-EP35 introduce new features to the HD DVD
range to further enhance the home cinema experience – REGZA-Link (HDMI™, CECLink)
connectivity and native 24 frames per second playback support. In addition the HDEP35
also supports High Bit Rate Audio (up to 7.1 channels) via HDMI.
