Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Dexter: The First Season on 21st August 2007. Dexter is based on the compelling novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. Orphaned at the age of four and harbouring a traumatic secret, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators that are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being.

Showtime’s hit new drama series comes to DVD with all 12 one-hour episodes spread across four-discs with extras that include:
  • 2 Audio Commentaries by the Cast
  • The Academy of Blood – A Killer Course!
  • N Technology:
    • Free Showtime Series Episodic Download
    • Consumer Sweepstakes for a Sony HD Television & More
  • 2 episodes of Showtime’s “Brotherhood”

This is very good and can probably stand repeated viewing. The extras could make it worth buying if the price is right.

No info on aspect ratio? The cover art would look a lot better with a darker/grey background, just like the promo picture.

It's in Widescreen, no reason to expect anything else, but definitely widescreen for anyone concerned it wouldn't be.

@DaveF

Showtime who make Dexter, released season one of weeds full frame 1.33:1, even though it was shot 1.78:1 and broadcast widescreen HD.
The Blue-Ray disc is correct though.

Love Dexter btw.
