Filmax Home Video have announced an approximate release date and features listing for their release of Underworld: Evolution, which is due to be released on HD DVD in Spain, sometime this April. The image below shows the cover art, and has been taken from the Spanish DVD news site ZonaDVD.com.

  • Video: 2.35:1 1080p High Definition

Presumably, the video will be compressed using the VC-1 codec, which has become the de-facto standard for HD DVD due to the involvement of Microsoft, as well as its highly regarded picture quality.

The following Special Features are also included:
  • Audio Commentary with director Len Wiseman
  • Image Gallery
  • Biographies/Filmographies
  • Photo Gallery
  • Trailer
  • TV Spots
  • Featurette (6 min)
  • "Imágenes de rodaje" (15 min)

  • Making of (13 min)
  • Making of: Special Effects (13 min)

  • Making of: "Especialistas" (10 min)
  • Making of: Production Design (13 min)

How strange. Just last week I was moaning about how little variety there is on HD DVD over Blue Ray. Look what's happening now.... Warner France annouce some very tempting titles over the next few months that won't be available on Blue Ray, then Universal do the exact same thing. And now this.

I know that "Underworld: Evolution" won't exactly be the most sort-after HD DVD in all the land (I've yet to see this as I saw the first film and thought it was OK), but for me that isn't the point. It's coming out on HD DVD rather than Blue Ray...... And that's all that matters :)

Did anyone actually see this, by the way?

Underworld: Evolution is owned by Sony in America so is out on Blu-ray there (it was a launch title).

As for availability of titles - Bandai or on board with HD DVD and Universal have said they'll release 100+ titles this year. It's just that the Blu-ray Camp did all their announcing at CES (good move, IMO) whereas the HD DVD people were less specific and told us "stuff is coming". I'm sure there will be more good surprises.

Play.com has had the Blu-ray listing for Underworld: Evolution for months: it is coming to BD in the UK??

And the BD camp did not annouce ALL of the titles at CES. Just some of their major highlights (with dates).

Yeah, I believe Sony has the distribution rights for Underworld Evolution, in the UK, although oddly enough the original Underworld is owned by EIV, who I believe intend to start releasing on Blu-ray in March.
