Fox Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Bones Season 1 for 30th October 2006 priced at £39.99. Starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, Bones is inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and best-selling novelist Kathy Reichs, who acts as a consultant on the show. The series follows her semi auto-biographical character Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Deschanel) on missions to identify corpses that are badly decomposed, burned or destroyed beyond recognition. Temperance’s special expertise lies in her uncanny ability to read the clues left behind in the victim’s bones.

Temperance often finds herself paired with Special Agent Seeley Booth (Boreanaz), of the FBI’s Homicide Investigations Unit. Booth has great faith in good old-fashioned investigative work, and distrusts both science and scientists, who pore over physical evidence. Needless to say, this leads to some personal, and professional clashes with Temperance, and some unwanted sexual chemistry…

The DVD box-set contains extensive extras including an episode commentary by Boreanaz, Deschanel, creator Hart Hanson and Executive Producer Barry Josephson. Character profiles and a selection of featurettes focusing on the science behind the series, and the real-life of Kathy Reichs are also included.

Spread across six-discs the extras include:
  • Commentary for “Two Bodies in the Lab” by Boreanaz, Deschanel, creator Hart Hanson and Executive Producer Barry Josephson
  • ”Will the Real Kathy Reichs Please Step Forward” featurette
  • ”Squints” featurette
  • ”The Real Definition” featurette
  • ”Bones – Inspired by the Life of Forensic Anthropologist Kathy Reichs” featurette
  • Character Profiles

Release date has been moved back to 30th Oct, and the updated press release revised to say "an episode commentary" instead of "episode commentaries" so it seems we only get the one.

This is a great show, I look forward to getting this on DVD. I didn't think it'd be so good when it first started on Sky One but I decided to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised! the young scientist guy who works with Temperance is pretty cute too *hehe* and both Angela and Temperance are great characters I think :)
