Tartan Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of The Vengeance Trilogy for 23rd October 2006. Park Chan-Wook has found international acclaim for his stylish tales of dark justice. Having proved himself a master storyteller, his reputation has grown with each subsequent film. Now Tartan is bringing his cult trio together in one deluxe boxset. Sympathy For Mr Vengeance; Oldboy; and Lady Vengeance all get special double disc treatments and are fully remastered in HD.
Sympathy has two hours of extra material, whilst Oldboy has the autobiography of Oldboy and an English dubbed version. Lady Vengeance not only includes additional commentaries and deleted scenes, but also the Fade-To-Black-And-White HD feature, exclusive to the boxset!
Retail is £49.99 for the standard box-set, but there will also be a a numbered deluxe edition available (£79.99 RRP) in a special box designed after the Oldboy box, with added Vengeance-themed gifts including three lobby cards, Lady Vengeance gun blueprint poster, and a laser-engraved hammer/bottleopener!

I'll probably end up getting it though, mainly for the extras on Lady Vengeance. At least I'll still have the Korean DVDs for actually watching the films.

Lady Vengeance with commentaries and fade-to-black version, released seperately, PLEASE!
We have the others with plenty of features.

whilst Oldboy has a new commentary by Ain’t It Cool’s Harry Knowles and an English dubbed version
Not that it matters if the extras are otherwise but What!
but also the Fade-To-Black-And-White HD feature, exclusive to the boxset!
I never thought I'd see this coming great stuff. What's with the HD tag though?
If I didn't already own Oldboy Tartan 2 Disc and the Korean 2 Disc LE I'd get this for sure.

Funnily the USA "A Tale of Two Sisters" is PAL-NTSC though, which makes little sense when you consider Tartan could easily source the Korean NTSC for the USA market. Thankfully the UK got Film to PAL.

Don't rush into it! Tartan have an annoying habit of not bringing over all the extras from their previous releases. I'm going to wait and see...

Now that Tartan are releasing a proper version of Lady Vengeance, lets hope Tartan are bothered to release a Special Edition of A Bittersweet Life.
Oh yeah, I would like to add that adding an English dub of Oldboy is pointless, sacrifice that for the 2 hour+ autobiography of Oldboy found on the Korea UE.

I`m looking forward to the fade-to-black and white version of Lady Vengeance. It`s already on the Korean SE, but you can only play it in DTS. Since I can`t play DTS, I`m looking forward to this one. But indeed: what`s with the HD? it better not only be watchable when you got HD

Frankly, my dear, I don`t give a damn!

I'm always surprised to still read people can play DD5.1 but not DTS. In seems odd to buy one without the other is all.

The full 210 mins version I assume? Are we expecting a 3 disc set now for Oldboy? :)
A shame that tartan did not release the soundtrack for all 3 films, the Korean critic commentary for Oldboy and the short films while they're at it.

Nah, the loss of the Harry Knowles commentary is not a great deal. As long as I get to see 210 mins of behind-the-scenes footage, I couldn't really care about the commentary (which only lasts 115 mins). With that included, will we see Oldboy presented as a three disc set?
Another thing, Dave, do you have a detailed list for the extras of Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengeance?

How is Tartan going to manage squeezing a 3+ hour feature onto the 2nd disc of Oldboy?

So no matter how nice this set looks (And it does look jolly good) my priorities are the transfer qualities.

All the films have been remastered, so it's a bit premature to say how the transfers will compare to other releases.

Ah, sorry. Mis-read that bit. But Oldboy had a tremendous transfer anyway. Hmmm. Time to adopt a wait and see policy methinks.

That is a ridiculous price, especially as many have at least 1 of those films already.
I have been holding off to get this as I only have Oldboy, but at that price, I'll probably get the other 2 separately if they do a Lady Vengeance SE...
...or wait a year or so & get the box when it comes down in price.
