Looks like a good release... This could definitely be worth the upgrade from the R1 boxset, especially considering some of the online deals that'll be available.

Does anyone know if it's a new transfer? (The DD5.1EX track is obviously new....)

Bugger! This means our £90 Elite LaserDisc of the original is probably about to be rendered defunct, and we have just transferred all of the exclusive material (including 30 mins of deleted scenes) to DVD-R.

It would be nice if there was a branching option to put back the brief few seconds that the MPAA forced him to remove, including the lovely final splash of blood as Tina's body hits the bed.

Speaking of that scene, Englund has been saying for the last twenty years that one of his favourite shots from the original movie that didn't make it to the final cut was when he appears as Tina is being dragged around the ceiling and blows her a final "death-kiss" as a web of blood flies off of his blades. This isn't present in the deleted scenes on the disc, not mentioned in the commentary nor even in the extensive notes about both the production and censorship provided as extras. There is only Englund's word for it that it even exists.

New Line have been very, very quiet on the DVD front recently. I wonder if this will be the beginning of a Sony-style barrage of re-releases before they take the plunge into HD-DVD/Blu-ray?

This would be only worth buying, if it's going to be the unrated-version.

They'd be CRAZY not to include the unrated / uncut version on this release!
Superb artwork btw! Simple and stylish.

I'm afraid it is still the same, it is the R-Rated cut of the movie, which is a big shame, as New Line are normally so good as releasing uncut/unrated stuff (ie: Jason goes to Hell).

See http://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2074&start=20

The gory stuff are included as an extra on the 2nd disk, so I may get this but stilll.... it should have been the uncut version :(
