Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Black Hawk Down (Extended Cut) for 6th June 2006 priced at $19.94 SRP. Yet another film receives the ‘Extended Cut’ treatment on DVD this year, and surprise surprise Jerry Bruckheimer also had something to do with this one. Black Hawk Down (Extended Cut) is said to have been completely digitally remastered for the best quality picture and sound and features eight additional minutes of footage. The only extra is a feature called “PBS Presents: “Frontline: Ambush in Mogadishu” with Interactive Mission Map/Timeline”.

The film is presented in 2.40:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with English and French DD5.1 Surround, and optional English, French, Korean and Spanish subtitles.

I'm starting to get bored of 'Extended Cuts'. I like the 'Directors Cuts' though.

I think that's the 4th DVD release of Black Hawk Down in a little over 3 years. 2006 continues to be the year of the Sony Extended Cut. Are they raising money to try to take over the world or something?

I'll believe that when I see it the Korean SB Deluxe is already first rate.

I read it was 10 minutes over at Axelmusic not that it matters to much, for me anyway.

Cheers that says it all. At least with Gladiator it was an improvement.

The Western 3 Discer and the Korean SB Deluxe both have oodles of extras. It should've at least had:

DTS, Commentaries, ALL the Extras

I hate owning two versions of the same film (I have done when two cuts are involved though) and without the above I'd have to.

10 mins in a 150 minute film isnt going to make a massive difference.
Think i will stick with my Superbit Triple Discer with Soundtrack on a bonus CD

Again with this stupid Sony quadruple-dipping crap. First the original release, then the Superbit, then the 3-disc set, and now this so-called extended cut. I swear, Sony and Fox are the worse companies when it comes to double-dipping.

Sony isn't forcing anyone to buy all these different releases.

I'm not sure that would happen Scott says in the booklet that comes with the DVD the theatrical cut is the Director's Cut.

Still it may still happen, surely he has a say in such DVDs?

I love this film, a lot. And ridley, but I don't know what to say about this. And on another note the box art is TERRIBLE. yeah, let's not give people a reason to buy a forth version of a film at all.

He's all over the Gladiator extended edition, despite saying that its theatrical cut is his "director's cut", and despite seeming thoroughly pissed off in his intro on the DVD, saying that the extra scenes "might be interesting for some people".

There should be just two releases at best for any film, a 'vanilla' release to satisfy the majority and a 'everything you ever wished for' release for people like us. Complete with extended/director's cut options, remastered and hopefully DTS and original mono options!

I liked 1492 as well.

In a perfect world...

And Hannibal: Extended Cut may not be out of the realms of possibility, what with the new Hannibal film in the works, so it may come out when people are interested in it again.

Still, I won't buy it! Don't encourage them!

Neither is Fox. Consumers are wising up to this double-dipping practice the studios are practicing, and just wait for the better version to emerge.
