Momentum Pictures have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Flash Gordon (Silver Anniversary Edition) for 10th October 2005 priced at £19.99. Boxed in limited edition steelbook packaging, and featuring a host of extras exclusive to this release, the latest and best edition of this sci fi classic will be irresistible to film fans and DVD collectors both young and old alike. Retaining the adventurous spirit and striking visual style of the original 1930s comic strip, and featuring an unforgettable soundtrack performed by Queen, Mike Hodges’ FLASH GORDON has become synonymous with the hugely successful blockbusters Superman, Star Wars and Scanners. The breakthrough film for Timothy Dalton, and arguably the showcase for Brian Blessed’s most memorable role, FLASH GORDON also stars Sam Jones as Flash, Topol as Dr Hans Zarkov and Max Von Sydow as Emperor Ming, The Merciless.

Features include:
  • New DTS Audio & Dolby Digital 5.1
  • Original Queen Theatrical Trailer
  • Mike Hodges Audio Commentary
  • Mike Hodges Interview
  • Brian Blessed Audio Commentary
  • Photo Slideshow
  • Original 1940s Serial – Episode 1 of ‘Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe’

A commentary from Brian Blessed? That's worth the money alone! I can only imagine how hilarious that will be. And I bet the sub-woofer will get a lot of work too!

No making of documentary? Damn!! The art direction on this film is so unique it would have been great to learn more from all the various departments that worked on it, not to mention any deleted scenes or storyboards. The commentaries are great, and hopefully the new transfer will be good, but I can't help but feel like they missed the boat here.

Very pleases about this. Flash Gordon alsways has been one of my guilty pleasures :D

But have to agree that it is shame about no Retrospective Making of or Deleted Scenes.

And why no Isolated Music Score, can we finally have all the music made for this and not just the bits on the album.

Pathetic Earthlings...

I'd watch the episode of the Buster Crabbe serial and skip the feature.

"Freeze! You bloody b*stards!"

Certainly one of my favourite films ever. Can't wait to hear Queen's Battle Theme in DTS. Or indeed to experience what will definately be THE SHOUTIEST DVD COMMENTARY EVER courtesy of Brian Blessed.
